This course includes structural design of High-rise building, where super-structure is designed by ETABS software and sub-structure or foundations are designed by CSI SAFE software.

Description

A high-rise building is a structure that is significantly taller than the surrounding environment and designed for residential, commercial, or mixed-use purposes. While the specific definition of “high-rise” can vary depending on the context and local building codes, it generally refers to buildings that:

  1. Exceed Certain Heights: Typically, a high-rise is a building that rises to at least 18.6 meters or about 6-7 stories as per BNBC. However, some jurisdictions may define high-rises as buildings over a certain number of stories or height.

  2. Require Special Design Considerations: High-rises often require advanced architectural and engineering solutions for:

    • Structural Stability: To withstand wind loads, seismic activity, and other forces.

    • Fire Safety: Special fire-resistant materials, sprinkler systems, and evacuation strategies.

    • Elevator Systems: Efficient vertical transportation is essential for high-rise functionality.

    • Utility Systems: Systems like water pressure, HVAC, and electrical distribution are designed to accommodate multiple floors.

  3. Urban Density Solutions: High-rise buildings are often constructed in urban areas to maximize the use of limited land resources and address population density.

Notable examples of high-rise buildings include skyscrapers in major cities, which are among the tallest structures in the world, but the term also applies to mid-sized buildings that meet the criteria described above.

In this course we will cover Structural Design part of High-rise building.
